    Needs Work

I just received mine, a black XL. The weight was the first thing I noticed when taking it out of the package, it's hefty. With that said, I'm quite sure it will stand up to the paces I will set it through in the coming months. I usually buy a large but decided to go one size larger due to other comments and previous experiences. I would prefer for the breast pockets to be two inches deeper to accommodate a radio or my Maxpedition Hook & Loop Mini Organizer which is 4-3/8 x 7 inches. The current breast pockets are two inches too short. The breast pockets also need the Velcro flaps like most of the other pockets on the vest. The zipper pocket needs to be replaced with Velcro (or removed), I have no need for zippers on any pocket, just something else to jamb-up or get caught on something. The pencil pocket on the left breast pocket effectively reduces the use of that pocket since it takes up a third of that pocket. They (5.11) should have put the pen/pencil organizer on the inside of the breast pockets like it is with uniforms that way you have the option to use those pockets the best way you see fit without having to permanently alter and possibly irrevocably damage the left pocket in the process. The redundant snap tab closure and waist cinch snap tabs aren't needed either. I always leave them in the fully extended position or secured back out of the way with my uniform jackets. Just another useless feature/decoration to add more cost to a product. This is a utilitarian product and should be just that, with no useless bells and whistles. I like the inside pockets but it seems like they (5.11) forgot to add one to the right side and there is enough room for two inside breast pockets as well. The concealed carry expansion slots are a nice feature that I will use for a different purpose but not with the hook & Loop Mini Organizer I mentioned earlier since it gets used all the time and I Will wear that Velcro out plus I don't want to get shot like I'm going for a weapon. The water bottle pockets are a plus also so I won't have to wear my Camelback all the time and will use the other one for a radio since the front pockets are too small for a Motorola 750 and other radios that size. My suggestion would be to reorganize the front pockets to a BDU arrangement but keep the current Velcro flap closures or design a new vest without the magazine pockets because you're limited to what you can use those pockets for unless you're an operator.

I purchased an od green vest last year I wear the vest when I go to town, and I wear it when I go to the rifle and pistol range great vest, however I would like to see more colors. Dark brown, burnt orange, and indigo blue would be nice. Don T. Midland, Tx.

    Room to spare

I bought one last year, and use it often, it has enough pockets to fullfill any need that you can think of. I also ordered the holster for the vest, which can accomadate anything I carry weather it is a 1911, Glock, Beretta, or S&W without showing. It is also great for traveling, it's like having an extra carry-on bag when flying there is so much room in this vest. On the one downside that I see it is a little heavy, but it is also very sturdy and should last a very long time.

    Nice Kit

As a person who carries concealed, I've tried a number of different vests and remedies. This vest not only supplies an excellent platform for concealed carry, it can carry a full, three day kit with ease and discretion. Several times I have asked people to hold my vest for a second to find them shocked by the weight, despite the fact that it looks so lightweight. The only thing I would change are the long (what appear to be magazine) pockets on the right. Not all of us carry m-16 mags around town, and the pockets are too long for phones or other tools including tactical flashlights. I would make it one big pocket with elastic, or cinches inside to hold mags if needed. That would make it both a mag pouch and a drop pouch at the same time. Still, very fine.
