To Eric and other who may buy this knife. 1095 CorVac is NOT stainless steel. 1095CorVac is a high carbon steel with a small amount of chromium and vanadium added and it WILL rust. The KA-BAR Becker is still GREAT knife that just needs little TLC to keep it that way.

Excellent for the field
Bought this knife for my tour to Afghanistan. I've never had to use it on a person though I'm sure it will do the job just fine. So far it has been an excellent companion. It holds an edge very well but be warned, this knife requires maintenance. For the first couple months of owning this knife it actually began to develop a few rusty spots, so I hit it with some CLP, scrubbed it down, honed the edge, and sheathed it. I don't know if it was the climate I was in or what, but stainless steal shouldn't rust. But it hasn't developed any more spots since then and I only have to hone the edge every two months or so to keep it sharp. Other than the maintenance aspect it is excellent for preparing food in the field. Good for lopping off tree branches. Etc. Definitely not a requirement for your tour but an excellent knife to keep in your pack if your going on long range missions.

this is a beastly knife
This knife has a weight to it, the pictures don't do it justice. Don't expect to use it far away from your body, this is for close in chopping and stabbing. The handle leaves a bit to be desired though, I couldn't get a grip on it. I fixed this by braiding para-cord around it, better than ever now. Lastly, this knife is deceptively sharp so really watch out. I sliced two of my fingers and a hand when it fell out of the sheath and the box upon opening so watch out. It took several hours (about 6) to stop bleeding. This is even with a pressure bandage so, seriously, watch out.
