Suunto X-Lander is the choice for outdoor people who are not willing to make compromises when it comes to the quality, materials and functionality of their equipment. Suunto X-Lander is an accurate altimeter, a complete barometer, a precise electronic compass and a multi-functional sports watch in a one elegant package.
The altimeter features a range up to 9,000m (29,500 ft.), which puts all 14 of the world??s 8000+ meter summits within your range. It has also an adjustable altitude alarm, as well as different memory functions. With the logbook function you can record total and cumulative vertical ascents and descents, as well as the number of runs skied.
Suunto X-Lander displays the current barometric pressure and temperature as well as the pressure-related data for the past four days. It also shows you the present sea level pressure, which makes it easier to read and understand the barometric pressure at high altitudes.
The electronic compass displays the cardinal or half-cardinal point and the North-South arrow and can display bearings with 3-degree accuracy. You can also set it to track a certain bearing, which helps you follow a chosen direction in the terrain. The declination adjustment function allows you to correct the difference between the true North and magnetic North.
No matter where and how you are traveling, Suunto X-Lander keeps you on time. The calendar watch is pre-programmed to the year 2089, has 3 daily alarms and a stopwatch with split time measurement and a countdown timer.

I bought this watch when it first came out in 1998. I used in the field extensively and it was very dependable for the compass and the altimeter. You need to adjust the current barometric pressure daily for best results on the altimeter but it works great and at the time was better than any gps elevation. It matched topo maps very closely on elevation. Shows barometric drops for declining weather conditions. I still have the watch and it had degraded in it's old age but it still works. I think the compass is worthless know but I had at least 10 good years of operation and it never lost it's seal or fogged up. I did not expose the watch to high impacts but it does look rather fragile so I would keep it from heavy impact work.

I bought this watch in black and have had it for more than a year. it's functions are good, however, I have had to cover the entire battery compartment with black silicone due to the ever present leaks, my crystal was continually fogged. I have had the bezel pop off and the side covers come off as well. I like suunto watches but this watch is very disappointing. Unfortunately it is not worth the money for normal operational duties and, I think, for normal at home life.
