Notice To OnPoint Readers/Contributors

From the Editor:

I am David Danelo, author of Blood Stripes: The Grunt’s View of the War in Iraq. On June 5, I had the honor of taking over U.S. Cavalry On Point. I replaced Mark Placey, whom many of you know as a retired Marine, F-A/18 pilot, and delightfully cantankerous Irishman. His commitment to this professional forum has been absolute and total. I will only be building on the work he his done, and I thank him for leaving the site in such good hands.

Endorsed by Mark and the team prior to my arrival, we are investing in new software that will increase our site capabilities. To reconfigure the site, we will place On Point in a “check fire” status for a few weeks. Once we re-launch, On Point will have a tighter format, increased discussion capacity, new multimedia features, and much more.

In the interim, we will be featuring our most requested articles from 2005/2006, as well as a few pieces previously run in other publications. Beyond that, we will have very limited new content until we have completed site reconstruction. Our next new electronic issue is slated for Wednesday, July 26. After that, On Point will be published every other Wednesday.

Writers, photographers, and videographers: please review our submission guidelines. All submissions should be sent to the appropriate link and should have full name, email, mailing address, and telephone contact (if deployed in combat, phone not required). Unless waived by the editor, On Point requires exclusivity of all submissions.

FEATURES: (6 per issue – 3 military/3 law enforcement). 1200-1500 wds. Focus on issues of professional relevance in the military and/or law enforcement community. The feature should be a clear, concise essay that expresses a single idea in a narrative. $100 .

FROM THE FIELD: 800-1000 wds. (max 10 per issue – 5 military/5 law enforcement). Tell us a story: what happened, what you learned, and what went wrong/right. Make it colorful. It should be professional, but memorable. $75.

EDITOR’S CHOICE: A maximum once a quarter, selected for outstanding quality from feature submissions. Not every quarter will necessarily have an “editor’s choice.” If one emerges, the writer will be honored with the award and a $200 payment.

PHOTO/AUDIO/VIDEO SUBMISSIONS: $25 per .jpg or clip used on the site.

Thanks for your time and attention. I look forward to seeing you On Point.
